The Cemeteries of the Abington Congregational Church
In its two-and-a-half centuries the Abington Church has used two cemeteries, "Old Abbington Cemetery" on the west side of Route 97, and "The New Abington Cemetery" off of Route 44. Sixty Revolutionary War veterns are interred in the Old Cemetery. But by the 1820's the Old Cemetery ran out of room for new family plots. The last burial in a family plot in the Old Cemetery was in 1900. The New Cemetery was opened in the 1820's, where a few long-lived Revolutionary War veterns are interred, and continues to receive fresh burials today.
